Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chill Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients
2 cups (480 ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
½ cup (120 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon lemon zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
For Garnish
Whipped cream
Fresh lemon zest
Lemon slices
Mint leaves (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Whip the Cream
Pour the cold heavy whipping cream into a large mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form, about 3–4 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Lemon Mixture
In another bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, and vanilla extract (if using). Whisk until smooth. The mixture will begin to thicken naturally as the lemon juice reacts with the condensed milk.
Step 3: Fold Together
Gently fold the whipped cream into the lemon mixture using a spatula. Mix carefully until no white streaks remain, keeping as much air in the mousse as possible.
Step 4: Fill the Glasses
Spoon or pipe the mousse into serving glasses or dessert bowls. Smooth the tops if desired.
Step 5: Chill
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the mousse is firm and well chilled.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Just before serving, top each mousse with a swirl of whipped cream, fresh lemon zest, a thin lemon slice, and mint leaves for extra freshness (optional). Serve chilled.
Tips for the Best Lemon Mousse
Always use fresh lemon juice for the brightest flavor.
Chill the mixing bowl and beaters before whipping the cream for quicker, fluffier results.
Fold gently to keep the mousse light and airy.
For a stronger citrus flavor, add a little extra lemon zest.
Don't skip the chilling time — it helps the mousse set properly.
Delicious Variations
Fold in fresh blueberries or raspberries.
Layer with crushed vanilla cookies or graham crackers.
Add white chocolate shavings.
Serve in a pie crust for a quick no-bake lemon pie.
Storage
Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Do not freeze, as freezing may affect the smooth, creamy texture.
